EBID and INDIA explore enhanced collaboration

Dr George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), received His Excellency Sanjiv Tandon, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Togo, for a courtesy visit at the Bank’s headquarters in Lomé.

Dr Donkor lauded the long-standing partnership between India and EBID, highlighting the significant contributions of the India EXIM Bank, which has provided USD 1 billion in lines of credit for critical infrastructure projects across the ECOWAS sub-region.

Highlighting the urgent need to bridge the infrastructure gap, Dr Donkor advocated for an enhanced collaboration between India and ECOWAS. He proposed that India should consider becoming a Non-regional Member of EBID, a move that could further support the development of regional value chains and unlock additional business opportunities.

In his response, His Excellency Sanjiv Tandon commended the Bank for its recent achievements and its substantial contributions to the socio-economic progress of the sub-region through focused and impactful initiatives. He assured Dr Donkor of India’s unwavering commitment to bolstering its partnership with the ECOWAS region, which will result in the implementation of more mutually beneficial programs and projects.
